Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
today Monday 16th February, 2015 finally announced his decision to
dump the ruling party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the presence of PDP
members from ward 11 in Abeokuta North Local Government, stating that he is no
more a politician adding that he would prefer to be an
elderstateman.
The former
President while addressing members of the PDP at his Presidential hilltop
mansion in Abeokuta who came to confirm whether he has been expelled from the
party or not announced his decision to quit the People’s Democratic Party.
To prove his decision was irreversible, Obasanjo tore his PDP
membership registration card.
The former
president announced his decision when members of the party from his Ward II in
Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State visited him at his Hilltop
mansion residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Chairman of the party in the ward, Alhaji Usman Oladunjoye, led
the delegation.
Obasanjo ordered Oladunjoye to tear his (Obasanjo’s) PDP
membership card at the meeting.
The move
was hailed with a thunderous applause by those present.
Obasanjo said he has now become a statesman.
He equally
denied the allegation by President Goodluck Jonathan that he was plotting to
head an Interim National Government, which was the reason advanced by the
administration at the centre for the recent criticism of the regime by
Obasanjo.
The former
President had been widely criticized by party chieftains over his recent
outburst on President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday. Some even called for his
expulsion from the ruling party over his incessant comment on the President.
May be this is the end of PDP in Nigeria...
