The team were returning from
Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state to Akure where they had been camped in preparation for 2014 Nigeria Professional Football (NPF), Globacom premier League season.
Witnesses at the scene of the accident disclosed that the club’s 32 seater bus rammed into an articulated Range Rover jeep at a border town between Ondo and Ogun state. Several occupants of the bus were said to have sustained minor injuries except five players of the club who sustained serious injuries and have since been hospitalized.

Five players of the club and four officials were said to have been rushed to the trauma hospital centre in Ondo. Sources disclosed that two of the players were seriously injured and might be transferred outside the hospital because of their critical condition.

The team's Coach and his Assistant including the captain of the team had earlier left Ijebu-Ode as the first batch to akure before the accident occurred.
As at the time of filling this report, the condition of the driver of the Range Rover jeep and other occupants could not be ascertained.
Though, a major repair along the road linking Ijebu ode to Ore road was believed to have caused the accident as drivers were said to have been plying through one way of the road.
Confirming the incident, The Executive Director of the Ondo state Football Agency (ODSFA), Mike Idoko said the news was shocking.
He said five players of the club were injured in the 32 seater luxury bus while some officials sustained minor bruises on the part of their body.
He confirmed that members of the Ondo State Ministry of youth and Sport have briefed the state government while emissary has since been sent to visits the injured players.
The team is expected to host Enyimba football club of Aba today (Sunday, 23-02-2014) in the star match of the opening week of the Nigerian Professional football (NPF) league 2014.
The club got to the Champions league semi-finals of the CAF Champions league three seasons ago but lost to get the cup.
They are hoping to qualify for the competition this season after a not too impressive outing last season in the domestic league.
But with the accident, supporters and fans are of the opinion that the club might need to strive harder in getting to the top of the league because of the disastrous accident.
