Less than a week
after Barcelona was knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid,
their youth team, the Catalans, have won the inaugural UEFA Youth Champions
League.
A goal from Tarín and a brace from Munir saw
the Barcelona lads
defeated their Benfica counterparts 3-0 to lift the trophy. The Barcelona team,
coached by Jordi Vinyols, demonstrated their class in the tournament created by
UEFA just this season. The Under-18 teams of all the clubs competing in the main Champions League play each other in a group stage and subsequent knockout ties.
The Barcelona team, captained by
Adama Traoré, beat a Benfica side that ousted Real Madrid in the
semi-finals.
The Catalans took an early lead
in the game when Munir played his way to the by-line and found space to shoot. Benfica's
Portuguese goalkeeper, Graca parried his shot, but Tarín was on hand to tap the
ball in.
Adama
played a big part in Barça's second goal of the game with some outstanding football
that combined speed, strength and precision.
His
final ball was turned in by Munir to put the match beyond Benfica.
