TRAGEDY: Man hangs self In Akure

Tragedy struck in Akure, the Ondo state capital, as a 45-year-old man, Abayomi Olarenwaju allegedly hanged himself on a tree with a vehicle fan- belt after detecting he was HIV positive.It was gathered that the decease who hailed from Akure town was found early morning on a
tree by some passersby, who later raised the alarm that attracted other residents
Findings revealed that his wife and three children abandoned him after they learnt about his health status. It has been gathered that Olanrewaju had earlier been tested Positive to HIV.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr. Wole Ogodo confirmed the incident, saying that the remains of the decease had been released to his family.
Ogodo said that the incident occurred behind New Stadium, along Ilesha-Owo Expressway, Akure on 7th April, 2014, upon an information received from the people living around the area before Police swung into action.
According to him, in order to avoid health hazard, Akure South Local Government was initially contacted to remove the body from the tree for burial so as to prevent the widespread of disease. He said the Ministry of Health later intervened in the matter.
