Former Lagos State Governor, Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa has dumped
the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
alleging irreconcilable differences between him and the leaders of the party in
Adamawa State - Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako and former Vice
President Atiku
Abubakar.
He is following the footstep of former ACN guber candidate in 2011
Engineer Markus Natina Gundiri who defected last month to the PDP as major
disaffections in Adamawa State Chapter of APC continued.
At a stakeholders meeting attended by many supporters of
Marwa at Lelewal Motel in Yola, it was unanimously agreed by all that in view
of the injustice being entrenched in Adamawa state chapter of APC, they have no
option other than the dump the party.
While delivering his speech at the occasion, Marwa said he could
not live in a party that trampled on people’s rights with impunity, adding that
since the entry of Nyako into the party’s fold, injustice became its order.
He said, “The party has been hijacked by Governor Murtala
Nyako and there was no fair play in the way and manner the party is being run.
“Our attempts to get the issue addressed proved abortive as the
national secretariat of the party only paid a lip service to our complaints as
they said as a sitting governor Nyako will help with the finance of the
Marwa said that by hook or crook, the party’s registration
exercise was hijacked by Nyako’s loyalists denying ACN and CPC blocks any
chance of getting involved in the exercise.
“In nine Local Government Areas, report has it that the
registration materials were forcefully confiscated by Nyako’s group at the
detriment of other members of the legacy parties,” he added.
He added that Nyako also used the apparatus of government in
cajoling members of the party through the Special Assistance (SA) programme
package instead of using the resources to develop the state.
He added that all efforts to sit with governor Nyako in other to
resolve the anomaly proved abortive as Nyako obstinately refused to reason with
him just as he faulted the appointment of the Secretary to the State Government
Kobis Ari Thimnu as the Interim State Chairman, saying that the move was to
marginalize other stakeholders.
Marwa added that he was making serious consultation with the PDP
stakeholders in the state to ensure that his supporters are fully integrated
and to avoid the mistakes of the past.
The Interim National Vice Chairman of APC North East Dr. Umar Duhu
in his reaction to the decampment of Buba Marwa, said APC is not perturbed by
the movement of Marwa to PDP.
He said, “We are not perturbed by the defection of Marwa to
PDP as we believe it is the masses that constitute the chances of the party not
big names.
“As an independent person
we respect his rights to leave the party but that does not mean that we are
losing our sleep as we believe that his departure will not have any impact on
our fortunes and winning chances.”
