Mothers of Abducted Girls, Civil Organizations And NLC Protested in Borno

The Nigerian  Labour Congress (NLC) Borno state chapter, mothers and others civil organizations yesterday converged on the Borno State Government House to register their protest over  non-challant attitude of government towards rescuing the 234 abducted girls  of Government Girls Secondary School Chibok who were abducted over two weeks
ago.

Presenting a protest letter to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government, Maiduguri for onward transmission to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Senate President Senator David Mark, the state Chairman of the NLC Comrade Titus Ali Abana called on the Federal Government and the military authorities to intensify efforts in rescuing the school grils.

Comrade Abana who was accompanied by by NLC members, mothers and others civil society group who were dressed in black said the FG is not doing enough in its efforts to rescue the abducted school girls, as according to him the innocent school girls has spent almost three weeks in the hands of their abductors, without knowing the condition they are subjected to by the terrorist group.

“ We need action now not words because we are tired of assurances which are  not yielding results. Assuming the abducted girls were children of the President and other top government officials will the situation remain the same? It is because they are poor people’s children that is why government is not taking any serious action about their rescue”, Abana lamented  in tears.
The NLC chairman said this year’s workers day is celebrated in sober reflection over the lives lost in the insurgency and the abducted school girls, as such the union also donated 50 bags of rice, 100 rubber mats, 100 galons of cooking oil, 10 cartons of detergents, 10 cartons of Cameroun soap, 100 pieces of buckets, 100 wrappers and 100 5 yards of brocades to assist the victims of the insurgency.

Responding Governor Kashim Shettima assured the parents and the NLC members that government is working hard to secure the abducted school girls and assured that by the grace of God, the innocent school grilse will come back unhurt and will be re-united with their families.
“We are passing through the most trying moments in the annals of Borno history, as the abduction of our daughters by these lunatics is the most unfortunate thing, as women form the basis of our existence, even in wars women are sacred and deserves to be protected at all times, but these lunatics have no regard for the sanctity of life”, the governor affirmed.
“Our heart goes out to all mothers in Borno State, certainly we are passing through a stormy weather but definitely there must be calm after a rough weather, as Borno has undergone series of crisis such as the Rabe invasion of Borno and the Maitatsine crisis but later came out stronger, so this crisis is also surmountable by the grace of God”.

Also sharing the grief of the parents of abducted school girls, the Borno first lady Hajiya Nana Kashim who was dressed in black could not speak as she burst in tears when she heard the mothers wailing before the governor over their children.
